American University Men's Basketball: NCAA Tournament Bound

American University will play its first-ever NCAA Division I Tournament game as the 15 seed in the East. The Eagles will play against the second seeded Volunteers of Tennessee in the field of 65 on Friday, March 21 in Birmingham, Ala. at 11:15 a.m. CST; 12:15 p.m. EST.

The American University men’s basketball team is off to the Big Dance. With a 52-46 win on Friday against Colgate in the Patriot League Championship, and the news at Sunday’s selection show that they will face No. 2 Tennessee, the team gathered on campus to board a bus to the airport for their first NCAA Tournament berth. The 15-seed Eagles will play Friday, March 21 at 12:15 at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex in Birmingham, Alabama.

Hundreds of students, faculty, staff and well-wishers gathered on the Eric Friedheim Quadrangle to see the team off. President Neil Kerwin and Athletics Director Keith Gill joined in the celebration, wishing the team continued success on their historic run. Cheers of “Let’s Go Eagles” roared over the song “Don’t Stop Believing” as the team boarded the bus on its way to the airport and the final destination—the first NCAA Tournament game in school history.

The game will be televised on across the country on CBS. To follow the every moment in the Eagles trip to their first-ever NCAA Division I Tournament, visit American Today writer Mike Unger’s blog.
