2007 Is A Sizzling Year At Philadelphia Theatre Company

It may be chilly outside in Philadelphia, but 2007 is a hot year for Philadelphia Theatre Company!

Philadelphia Theatre Company kicks off the year with a production of the new musical Nerds://A Musical Software Satire with book and lyrics by Jordan Allen-Dutton and Erik Weiner, music by Hal Goldberg, and directed by Philip Wm. McKinley on January 25-February 25. First featured in the 2005 New York Musical Theatre Festival, the Philadelphia Theatre Company production incorporates a new script, new characters and new songs.

Theater-goers will enjoy New York productions of two plays which received world premieres last season at Philadelphia Theatre Company: Adrift in Macao by Christopher Durang and Peter Melnick will be presented at Primary Stages on January 23- March 4; and Some Men by Terrence McNally will be presented at Second Stage on March 2-April 15.

Philadelphia Theatre Company has long held a commitment to support contemporary American playwrights and to foster new plays, having produced 34 world premieres including Bruce Graham's According to Goldman; Jeffrey Hatcher's A Picasso; Daniel Stern's comedy Barbra's Wedding; John Henry Redwood's No Niggers, No Jews, No Dogs; J.T. Rogers' White People; David Ives' Lives of the Saints; three-time Tony Award-winning Master Class by Terrence McNally, starring Zoe Caldwell; Bunny Bunny by Alan Zweibel (Lucille Lortel Award, 1997); and the American premiere of Birdy by Naomi Wallace.

Through readings, workshops, and commissions, Philadelphia Theatre Company continues to define the changing landscape of American theater where audiences can experience premiere plays and playwrights.

Philadelphia Theatre Company's season continues with the international tour of In The Continuum, written and performed by Danai Gurira and Nikkole Salter and directed by Robert O'Hara (March 16-April 15). Danai Gurira was featured in Philadelphia Theatre Company's production of Tracey Scott Wilson's The Story in 2005. The season concludes with Orson's Shadow by Austin Pendleton, directed by James J. Christy (May 4-June 3), to which Philadelphia Theatre Company gave a staged reading directed by Walter Bobbie during its 25th Anniversary season. -- www.phillytheatreco.com
