Lindsey Buckingham, of Fleetwood Mac fame, brings his amazing vocal and guitar talents to the McCallum Theatre stage on Sunday, January 21 at 7pm. Lindsey, perhaps still best known for Fleetwood Mac's1977 multi-platinum hit Rumors, has been recording solo works since 1981 with the album, Law and Order. His most recent album, 2006's Under the Skin is wildly experimental, and infused with Lindsey's signature style of hushed vocals and amazing guitar work.
The shadow of a rock icon band like Fleetwood Mac is hard to overcome, especially when that icon is forever embedded with the famous break-up of Lindsey and fellow band member, Stevie Nicks. Nicks and Buckingham had been high-school sweethearts, and their first band, "The Fritz Rabyne Memorial Band"Â was formed while they were still in school. A testament to both their talents, "Fritz"Â opened for such legends as Janis Joplin, Carlos Santana and even the great Jimi Hendrix. After recording a critically acclaimed, but poorly performing album for Polydor in 1973, Buckingham/Nicks went on recording, creating what would become signature Fleetwood Mac songs, including the haunting "Rhiannon."Â
It all changed for them when Mick Fleetwood asked them to join with Fleetwood Mac, and thanks in large part to Lindsey's talents both instrumentally and vocally, Rumours went on to become one of the truly great albums in contemporary music. Fueled by success, the band went on to produce their next album, Tusk. Just before the scheduled tour for the band's last album, Buckingham left the band, citing an aversion to touring.
The nineties saw Buckingham continue to record, with the album Out of the Cradle being released in 1992. Buckingham then released Gift of Screws, but was convinced to again hold that material for another collaboration with Fleetwood Mac, of which seven of those songs appear on 2003's Say you Will.
Buckingham, who perhaps was always on his own, even within the band, is touring solo once again. The Under the Skin tour is a great chance to see and hear one of our generation's most prolific song writers and talented guitarists performing his classics and some of his latest creations.
The Eagle 106.9-FM is media sponsor for the McCallum's presentation of Lindsey Buckingham.
