US Internet Provider Takes Offline Anti-Islam Website

The United States internet provider Network Solutions says it first wants to view the anti-Qur'an film Fitna produced by Dutch populist MP Geert Wilders before deciding whether to allow him to post the film.

The provider wants to know if the film breaches any of its rules. Last weekend it took the website where Mr Wilders intends to show the film offline after receiving complaints. The company says it has offered to discuss the matter with Mr Wilders, but has not received a reply.

Mr Wilders has described Network Solutions' policy as inconsistent because it provides a website to the radical Islamic movement Hizbullah. Former foreign minister Hans van den Broek has asked the Dutch cabinet to take Mr Wilders to court and have the film banned.

The well-known Christian Democrat says the court must decide which is more important: freedom of speech or the country's national interests. Mr Van den Broek says that, if the film is shown, Muslim extremists throughout the world might launch attacks against the Netherlands.
