While James appeared satisfied with the Vogue magazine cover image, telling the Cleveland Plain Dealer “Everything my name is on is going to be criticized in a good way or bad way. Who cares what anyone says” the reaction was quite different from others.
According to Samir Husni, a magazine analyst, the Vogue magazine cover screamed "King Kong" and it is the depiction that has continued to perpetuate the stereo type that black men are aggressive and threatening.
Husni was quoted as saying “when you have a cover that reminds people of King Kong and brings those stereotypes to the front, black man wanting white woman, it's not innocent.”
Vogue magazine wasn't buying the criticism saying “We think LeBron James and Gisele Bundchen look beautiful together and we are honored to have them on the cover.”
