Target First Saturdays
On Saturday, April 5, from 5 to 11 p.m., the Brooklyn Museum presents a free night of music, dance, and art-making classes that explore the arts and pop culture of Japan, past and present, in conjunction with the exhibition Utagawa: Masters of the Japanese Print, 1770–1900. Family friendly highlights include the Japanese music and dance group Taikoza performing from 5 to 7 p.m., the anime classic Kiki’s Delivery Service (Hayao Miyazaki, 1989, 103 min., G) at 6 p.m., and a drawing project where participants create an image of themselves as a cartoon character, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Music Off the Walls: “Traversing the Mushroom Kingdom”
On Sunday, April 27, 2–4 p.m., members of the Brooklyn Philharmonic perform Randy Woolf’s Try to Believe and the world premiere of a new work by Darcy James Argue. This performance will present audio from video games paired with formal examples of chamber music. A gallery tour precedes the performance at 1 p.m. Tickets are $15; $10 for Members, students, and seniors.
Young Voices Gallery Talks
Members of the Brooklyn Museum’s Student Guide Program share perspectives about art with Museum visitors during free interactive gallery tours every Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
Scholastic Art Awards Exhibition
