Acting Prime Minister Julia Gillard says it will be business as usual for the Government while Kevin Rudd is out of the country for three weeks.
The Prime Minister has left Australia for his 17-day world trip, with the United States as his first stop.
Ms Gillard says as Acting Prime Minister, she will have the power to call Cabinet meetings and make important decisions.
"What you can expect of course is for Government to be doing all of the things that Government normally does in this country," she said.
"You can expect to see the Prime Minister overseas engaged in a very substantial set of important talks, particularly on the global economy."
But Opposition Leader Brendan Nelson thinks Mr Rudd's trip is too long.
"I'm a bit concerned about the fact that he's away for 17 days in the preparation of his first budget," he said.
"I'm also concerned about the fact that he's spending four days in China but he's not actually going to Japan."
