The 95-year-old, who died in Brisbane last week, was a member of Don Bradman's 'invincibles', and was honoured by a rendition of the last post for service to Australia in World War II.
Cricketers across the generations including former captain Allan Border and former wicket-keeper Ian Healy were among dozens of players on hand to farewell Bill Brown.
Journalists Mike Coward and Robert Craddock gave moving tributes about Brown's contribution to cricket.
Current Test opener Matthew Hayden says Brown respected modern-day players and helped him throughout his career.
"Bill was always on my side - left-handed opening batsman, he just thought as an opening batsman he knew that was pretty tough," he said.
