FDA Considers Action On Singulair and Suicide Risk

The FDA just issued a statement on its ongoing investigation of Montelukast (Singulair), saying that initially FDA thinks that there may be a link between Singulair usage and suicide.

AP reports that he FDA said it is investigating a possible link between Merck's allergy drug Singulair and suicide.

FDA said it is reviewing reports of mood changes, suicidal behavior and suicide in patients who have taken the drug, which was Merck’s best-selling product last year. In the past year Merck has updated the drug’s labeling four times to include information on tremors, anxiousness, depression and suicidal behavior reported in some patients.

The FDA has also asks doctors and healthcare professionals to carefully monitor patients taking SINGULAIR for changes in behavior and mood and report to FDA if they notice and suicide related activity.
