It's been a while since we've had an update on the Celebrity Apprentice. I've been tracking the show, but reality has taken on a different slant lately and writing on the shows has been difficult in a ridiculously busy schedule of late. However, I made a point of watching the finale live tonight and there are congratulations due.
Piers Morgan went into battle from the start of the show through to the end. He insulted most of the other celebrities and generally came across as an obnoxious, ruthless, jerk. So be it. However, the one thing that I found most offensive in the entire season came not from Piers, but from Trace. In the finale boardroom, Trace sat and spoke about why he deserved to win rather than Piers. He said that he came in wanting to represent his charity and didn't want to do anything to disgrace the group he was representing. That's all very fine and cheery, but this statement assumed that Piers did not deserve to win because his goal was to earn as much money as he could for a charity he believed in.
Piers never once resorted to tears and sobs to show how lovely and pretty his charity is. It's not pretty. It's about real young men and women giving more of themselves than they should ever have to in order to protect the country that they love; to protect the families that they love. They are warriors who have been torn apart in battle and Piers represented them as a warrior. To say that he didn't represent them well is ludicrous. What is more, does anyone really believe that it matters how ruthlessly the money was earned? Will it help the people it's meant for any less because Omarosa had her feelings hurt? It was offensive to presume that because Piers fought hard and ruthlessly for the money that he cared less about his charity.
Personally, I'd never want to meet Piers Morgan head on in a boardroom. His tongue is a little too sharp - and a little too honest. However, if ever I was in need of someone to help raise money for a cause close to my own heart, I would take Piers over Trace any day.
Congratulations to Piers Morgan - the Celebrity Apprentice.
