Dutch minister praises Muslims' response to Fitna

She and Justice Minister Ernst Hirsch Ballin held talks with representatives of the Muslim community this morning. Delegates from the Churches' Council and the Humanist Union also took part in the discussions.

Ms Vogelaar said members of the Muslim community in the Netherlands were self-assured enough not to fall into the trap laid by Mr Wilders. She believes he is attempting to heighten feelings of fear and insecurity within society.

The minister pointed out that the Islamic organisations had made it plain that Muslims would not become divided into camps. She also said that, in their sermons, Dutch imams would call on people to stay calm.
