Taylor University Volleyball Adds Brown to '08 Roster

The Taylor University volleyball team has announced the signing of Betsy Brown from Adrian, Michigan. Brown, a 5-foot-9-inch setter, is a senior at Lenawee Christian School.

A three time All-State selection in Michigan, Brown was also named Lenawee County Volleyball Player of the Year the last two seasons. Playing multiple positions during her senior season, Brown recorded 361 kills, 246 assists, and 116 aces in 2007.

Brown is also a member of the basketball and track squads at LCS and has earned a combined 12 varsity letters in the three sports over the last four years.

Her athleticism will be an asset for the Trojans next season. "Betsy is a very versatile, quick and competitive player with great technique. She also has great court awareness which allows her to be a threat in all positions," Head Coach Brittany Huyser Smith said.

Along with her athletic accomplishments Brown has excelled in the classroom as a member of the National Honor Society. Her 4.0 GPA ranks her fourth in her class. Brown plans to major in elementary education at Taylor.

Brown feels that Taylor is the right place for her to continue her academic and athletic careers. "I chose Taylor because I believe it is the place where God wants me to be," Brown said. "Taylor offered everything I was looking for. I feel so blessed to have been given this opportunity."

Her relationship with her future coach played a role in the decision making process as well. "I am excited about playing under the leadership of Coach Smith," Brown said. "Her knowledge and love of the game were evident every time we spoke. Her passion for her players to mature in their walk with Christ was influential in my college choice."

Taylor University Coach Smith believes Brown's well-rounded skill set will translate to success as a Lady Trojan. "Her success on and off the court at LCS will serve her well in her transition to Taylor next year. I am confident that she will make an outstanding addition to our team."
