
Millions of people including businessmen and governments across the world will do their bit in fighting global warming by putting lights out on Saturday for one hour at 8 pm, marked as Earth Hour 2008.
Earth Hour 2008 is a global event created to symbolize that each of us working together can make positive impact on climate change. Putting lights out for one hour is the symbol of our unity against global warming.
Although officially India is not participating in the environment-friendly event of Earth Hour 2008, NGOs and activists have decided to join the fight against global warming.
"At this point if we continue to go on the power use trajectory of the industrialized West, that has messed up the planet, would be a huge problem, as there will never be that kind of energy available", Vandana Shiva, environmentalist said.
She added that the limitless energy appetite will create power crisis in a power crisis stricken city like Delhi as it is a city with huge population and our resources are limited.
According to the latest report Dubai has joined the Earth Hour of 2008 as well.
