Troubled former AFL legend Wayne Carey has admitted to drinking alcohol after every game during his career.

In an interview with Andrew Denton to go to air on ABC 1's Enough Rope on Monday evening, Carey reveals that binge-drinking forms the basis of every misdemeanour performed by him in the past.

Carey is expected to be charged over a dispute at his Port Melbourne home earlier this year, and faces charges of assaulting police after an incident in Miami last year.

He told Denton he drank after every game.

"I haven't told anyone, well probably friends, good friends know and a few team-mates," he said.

"But even right up to preliminary finals, when most players say that if you make the finals, for instance, you stop drinking at the end of the home and away season.

"I thought that what worked for you in the home and away season, you continued through to the grand final, so I drank every single weekend."
