The DDNEWS reports that Baghdad is under curfew already the 3rd day and hundreds are killed in less than a week.
Iraq's capital, Baghdad has been locked down for the third straight day on Sunday after a weekend curfew was extended for an indefinite period to contain brutal clashes between Shiite gunmen and security forces.
At least 75 people have been killed in the fire-fights over the past five days in Sadr City.
The military command in the Iraqi capital had imposed the curfew covering pedestrians and vehicles from late Thursday after fierce clashes broke out between Shiite fighters and Iraqi and US troops, mainly in the sprawling impoverished district of Sadr City in eastern Baghdad.
Meanwhile, the warring faction has rejected the Government's call to lay down arms.
The fighting erupted after Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki launched an assault on Shiite fighters in the southern city of Basra on Tuesday. - DDNEWS
All of these points raise a legitimate question as to what happened to the Iraq surge and why did it fail? Why are things happening too late? What was the planed resolution about the more than predictable differences of the ethnic and religious differences in Iraq. The Christians are very insecure about their future in Iraq, Kurds want independence, Sheas were fed of Saddam's regime and don't want to share the oil revenues, Sunny have not much to offer. The country is breaking apart.
Even if the Iraqi Army wins this battle with the U.S. help, what is next for Iraq?
