Ioane facing six weeks on the sidelines

Injured Reds winger Digby Ioane is on his way home from South Africa after fracturing his finger during Queensland's 22-10 loss to the Sharks in Durban on the weekend.

Ioane sustained the injury with his first touch of the ball after coming on as a substitute.

"We initially thought it was a dislocation but later x-rays showed it was fractured in two places," Reds coach Phil Mooney said in a statement.

Back-up scrum half Will Genia will now remain on tour with the Reds at Ioane's replacement.

"With only one match remaining we won't seek a replacement. Instead we'll keep Will with us as an additional half-back," Mooney said.

Ioane is expected to miss up to six weeks but will await the results of scans.
