Walters Announces Art Blooms

The Women's Committee of the Walters Art Museum hosts an international celebration with the special event Art Blooms: All Mapped Out With Flowers, Thursday, April 3–Sunday, April 6, 2008. During this free, annual event, approximately 30 regional garden clubs will present their flower arrangements, which will represent a host of countries while interpreting artworks in the galleries surrounding the Walters' Sculpture Court.

This springtime event will complement the Walters' special exhibition Maps: Finding Our Place in the World, on view through June 8, 2008. Art Blooms will also include accompanying programs, such as a preview party, flower design demonstrations and tours.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

PREVIEW PARTY: Thursday, April 3, 6–9 p.m.

In a celebration of flowers, food and fine art, guests can marvel at the floral arrangements, which interpret masterpieces from around the world. Visitors also can sample international cuisines from restaurants, such as Brothers Taharka Ice Cream, the Helmand, Ikaros, Indigma, Minato, My Thai, Patisserie Poupon, Red Maple, Sascha's 527, Sotto Sopra Cucina Italiana, Stone Mill Bakery, The Dogwood, Tio Pepe and Vin by Chef Paternotte. Three winners of the map competition sponsored by Towson University's Geographic Information Sciences 2008 Conference will be on display during this opening party.

FLOWER DEMONSTRATION & LECTURE: Friday, April 4, 10–11:30 a.m. demonstration, Noon–12:45 p.m. lecture

Andrew Pascoe, a British floral designer featured in Town & Country and Architectural Digest, will share his "deeply English" style through a hands-on demonstration.

In the afternoon lecture, Amy Stewart, the New York Times bestselling author of Flower Confidential: The Good, the Bad, and the Beautiful in the Business of Flowers, will provide an insider's view of the cut flower trade.

DOCENT–LED TOURS: Friday, April 4, Noon–3 p.m., Saturday, April 5, Noon–4 p.m., Sunday, April 6, Noon–2 p.m.,

During a docent-led tour, visitors can learn about the masterpieces interpreted by the Art Blooms flower arrangements.

SUNDAY AT ART BLOOMS: Sunday, April 6, 1–3 p.m.
