It's A Grand Theatre Mystery

Can you help BBC North West Tonight solve the puzzle of the portraits on the ceiling of Blackpool's beautiful Grand Theatre?

There were six portraits painted on the beautifully ornate ceiling of Blackpool's Grand Theatre in 1910. But we don't know who they represent! So we called in BBC North West Tonight to help…

The six faces were painted on Blackpool's Grand Theatre ceiling in 1910 by a firm from Halifax called Dejong. The painting of the ceiling was supervised by renowned architect Frank Matcham who originally built the stunning Grade 11 listed Victorian theatre in 1894.

There are two faces that we at the theatre definitely believe to be Mozart and Shakespeare. But we cannot confirm the other four. So the theatre called in the regional news programme BBC North West Tonight to help us solve the portrait puzzle.

Roving reporter Stuart Flinders came to Blackpool with his crew last week and set BBC North West Tonight viewers the task of resolving the mystery. Some very interesting and entertaining responses flooded in to the news programme's website. -- www.blackpoolgrand.co.uk
