Titans Quarterback Vince Young Wants His Job Back

This week Titans quarterback Vince Young, came out publically and to the press he wanted to be able to compete for the starting job. Young also noted that if Tennessee give him that opportunity, he wanted to be traded.

Today on Wednesday, June 3rd, Vince came out and told the press, he now does not want to be traded.

Before I give you my thoughts on what Vince said, let’s go back in time and understand why this situation, is at this current state.

Titans Draft Vince Young

The Tennessee Titans selected, quarterback Vince Young, 3rd over all in the 2006 NFL draft. Upon his selection many football fans thought Vince would be the next great player in football.

These expectations seemed to be legit, seeing that Vince was fresh off winning a college national title with Texas, against the USC Trojans. Young’s ability to make big plays with his arm and legs wowed the crowd on the National spot light. His gifts were the type of stuff, fans would pay good money to come and see on a weekly basis.

No. 10 has had success early in the pros, as he won the rookie of the year award in 2006 and went to the Pro Bowl. But in his second year, Vince had 17 interception and only 9 passing touchdowns. This was a major set back for the talented star.

Vince Go Down With an Injury

In the first week of the 2008 season (3rd year in the league) Vince went down with a knee injury at home, against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Upon the news that Vince would be out of action for a few months, Jeff Fisher appointed veteran Kerry Collins, to be the start quarterback. Kerry went 9-0 in his first nine games as the starter in Tennessee. With his hot success Jeff Fisher told the media, that Collins would continue to start, as long as he kept winning.

In 2008 the Tennessee Titans, had the best record in football, after the season Fisher appointed Collins as the teams, starting quarterback for 2009.

Then in just this week, Vince Young told the press, he wants to be able to compete, for the starting job, or be traded.

Just Walk the Walk, Don’t Talk the Talk

My personal view on this situation is that Vince should just be quite in the press, about this situation for now. Eventually Kerry Collins will fall on his face, and at that time Young will start again for the Titans.

It is always ok, to want to start and play, as an athlete, but Vince should sit down with the coaching staff and handle this matter in house. It profits him nothing at this time, to come out and say these things nationally.

In the end I do see Young staying with the Titans for a long time to come. While it is true that Collins, lead the team to a fine year, he did not do much statistically. At some point this year, Kerry will fail and Vince will start again for Tennessee.
