This past week Eagles running back Brian Westbrook underwent surgery on his bad ankle. While the Philadelphia Eagles organization is down playing the injury, one has to wonder if Westbrook can find success in 2009.
As it stand right now Brian is scheduled to miss the rest of the summer, while he rest his ankle.
SI's Peter King came out today and said he does not expect Westbrook's production in 2009 to be anything less then, his 2008 totals.
In 2008 No.36 played in 14 games and amassed 1,340 total yards and 14 touchdowns. While these numbers are still very good, it needs to be noted that Brian was not a consistent producer last season. Some weeks he would go out for three touchdowns and for the next two games do nothing.
Second Round Pick LeSean McCoy's Impact
Brian's aliments prompted the Eagles to draft running back LeSean McCoy out of Pittsburgh in the 2009 NFL draft. LeSean is not great at any one skill but is good at everything.
Look for McCoy to take carry's away from Westbrook as the Eagle try to keep their 30 year old veteran runner healthy.
Brian Westbrook's Fantasy Football Value
Once Brian comes back onto the playing field again, he will still have his great skill set to draw from. But it will take time for Westbrook to get back into playing shape, to handle 20 plus touches a game.
Right now look for Westbrook to have a slow first half of the season as the Eagles use LeSean to help shoulder the load. But come November Brian will be healthy and fresh to have a great second half of the season.
Look for Brian as you 3rd running back in your fantasy football draft this summer.
