Drew Bennett Retires Just Three Days After Signing With the Ravens

Just three days after wide receiver Drew Bennett signed with the Baltimore Ravens, he now retires from the National Football League. This came as an interesting surprise as earlier in the month the Ravens No.1 receiver Derrick Mason also retired

At this point in time the Ravens are lobbying to get Derrick Mason back on the team, as they feel he may have retired because of the shock of losing his good friend and former teammate Steve McNair at the start of the month.

Drew Bennett's Career

Drew's best seasons will always be with the Titans. While he did also play for the Rams and attempted to play for the Ravens, it was with the Titans that Bennett enjoyed his success in the NFL.

While Drew was a talented receiver he was always dogged by injuries and that is why he is retiring this week. A nasty knee injury that never seemed to get better was the reason for his decision to hang them up.

What Will the Ravens Do Now?

Again the team is looking into getting Derrick Mason back onto the team and if he does come back they will be fine.

If he does in fact stay retired then the team will have to lean heavy on 4th year, 1st round pick Michael Clayton to lead the passing game at receiver.

Pro Bowl tight end Todd Heap has been dogged by injuries the past few seasons and that is why the team signed L.J. Smith from the Eagles this off-season.

In the end I do believe the Ravens will find a way to sign Derrick again and he will play for the team for 2009.
