Rashard Mendenhall Should Start for Pittsburgh Steelers

Sean Douglas's picture

The Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers will probably be without their pro bowl running back Willie Parker. The Steelers starting running back has a case of turf toe and has missed practice all week.

If Parker should, in fact, miss the game, the Steelers will probably turn to Rashard Mendenhall to carry the load.

Medenhall was the Steelers first round pick in 2008, and he is supposed to be the future starter on this team. While Mendenhall may start the game, fellow runner Mewelde Moore is expected to see time as well.

Moore filled in nicely a season ago when both Parker and Mendenhall were out with injuries.

Between the two running backs, I would expect the Steelers to use Mendenhall to run in between the tackles as he is a bigger runner.

Moore is best used as a third down back for receiving and blitz pickup.

While the Steelers have struggled to run the football this season I believe they will have reasonable success in the next three weeks. This week they face the Chargers and the next two games are against the Lions and Browns.
