New South Wales volunteers fly to aid of Vic

Emergency service volunteers from New South Wales will lend their support to their Victorian colleagues in the aftermath of the state's damaging wind storms.

About 40 State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers will head to Melbourne today to help deal with more than four thousand calls for assistance.

Phil Campbell from the New South Wales SES says the crews will be involved in a variety of tasks.

"These volunteers are specialists in the areas of storm damage and also chainsaw use," he said.

"They'll be helping in such tasks as clearing debris, tarping roofs that have been damaged by storms and also ensuring that any large trees are cleared away and made safe...

"Back in the June floods and storms in the Hunter and the Central Coast of last year, the Victorian SES, among others from other States and Territories around Australia, provided invaluable assistance to the New South Wales SES.

"It's our way for our volunteers to return that favour and provide these 40 volunteers to help them as they cope with their storm damage."
