The majority of you have probably rolled your eyes by this point in the post or are sincerely thinking about doing so by now, but at least that’ll bring me up to my music based point in all of this.
Oddly enough this song was nominated for the Lennnon Songwriting contest as well, which adds all the more luster to it. Now, I have a theory that there are distinct differences between nerds, geeks, and dorks - but that’s neither here nor there, although I’d be happy to explain it to anyone who inquisitively IMs me. Australian Fergus Brown doesn’t care about any of those distinctions! He’s taken a humorous “nerd” culture and contrasted it to the hipster, Lou Reed 7″ collectin’ lifestyle by way of a very catchy melody and sets of clever lyrics.
[MP3] Fergus Brown - Nerds In Love
Starting out with a coy flute line is only the beginning to an extremely well engineered track, one of only two songs I’ve ever found from Fergus. There are great lines about Magic cards, bio-chem, and the sort but the best line has to be “We like our books / We love our Moms / Aw, we’re nerds / N-N-N-Nerds”. There isn’t a ton of information surrounding this guy, so I was hoping some of our readers Down Under may know a bit more. If not then there are a few things we do know: he’s working on his debut LP, has a great voice, can write a solid tune, and has a name that flat out deserves to achieve some popularity.
