The 2007 runners-up were beaten by fierce cross-town rivals Adelaide in a six-point thriller in Showdown XXIV at Football Park yesterday.
Williams says he is confident Port will turn its season around.
"We were very much aware that this could happen, there's no guarantees when you're playing," he said.
"I think we've played all top eight sides from last year, I'm not sure how many other clubs have done that."
Meanwhile Adelaide coach Neil Craig says his team will be able to overcome the effects of a very physical contest.
Kris Massie, Jason Porplyzia, Luke Jericho and key defender Nathan Bassett were all injured in the Crows' victory.
Craig says the match was a learning experience for his players.
"It was a bit of an unusual week because of Port's situation being beaten so badly in Sydney, so they got probably more publicity than they would've wanted," he said.
"Our guys have to go through that as well, they hear it, they read it, and people talk to them about it, and it's fine, so that's all part of their education."
"Our senior players stayed at the whole game with having strong tags on them and in the end they came to the fore."
The Power's Troy Chaplin says his side was more committed to the ball throughout a very physical contest, but shrugged off suggestions his team-mates could face action from the video review panel.
"We rolled the dice in playing the tough game that's just what we focused on," he said.
"There were incidents in the game that happened but I don't think the video review panel will have too much to look into - it's just guys attacking the footy."
