The Defence Department has confirmed an Australian soldier was wounded in a rocket attack in the Iraqi capital.
The incident in the fortified green zone happened yesterday.
The soldier was treated in a US combat hospital for injuries, which the Defence Department says were not life threatening. He was later discharged.
The soldier was struck by shrapnel when a rocket hit a building in central Baghdad yesterday.
Two US soldiers died in the attack, while more than a dozen others were injured.
Brigadier Andrew Nikolic says the soldier's wounds are not life-threatening.
"The wounded soldier received the best possible care following the incident and was discharged after a medical examination and treatment," he said.
"Australian Defence Force personnel serving overseas are very well trained and well equipped, but this attack serves as a reminder that Iraq remains a dangerous place."
The wounded soldier has now contacted his family and Defence will not be releasing further details about the soldier at this time.
