Nokia Tube To Take On iPhone

Posted April 8th, 2008 by admin_huliq

World's largest mobile phone maker Nokia might have the numbers to show for their performance but none of their products can match the charisma of the Apple iPhone, but Nokia Tube soon may be up to the challenge.

The company continues to work on a worthy challenger to the iPhone named as Nokia Tube.

Codenaming the iPhone challenger as Tube Nokia said that it would be their first touch device.

Nokia Tube concept was showcased at the Evans Data Developer Relations Conference in Redwood City. The company added that Tube would support Java unlike the iPhone which lacks support for it and Flash.

Just released reports suggest that the Apple iPhone's Safari web browser has become the most popular mobile web browser in the US market. They dominate the Nokia's Symbian platform based web browser.

Nokia has not revealed any dates for the possible launch of Nokia Tube. Hopefully, they do it soon as Apple would soon be out with the second generation iPhone which is likely to support 3G networks.

It would be interesting to see how Nokia enhances the web experience for the end user considering they would have to match the capabilities of Apple Safari in this device.

InfoWorld writes that "Nokia believes it can compete with iPhone, and during his presentation, Libretto compared volume shipments of iPhone to Nokia's shipments of phones. Since the launch of iPhone in June, Apple has shipped 5 million to 6 million of the devices, paling in comparison to Nokia's device shipments, Libretto said. "We've done that [volume] since we've had dinner on Friday," he said."
