In a dramatic overtime thriller, Kansas (37-3) defeated Memphis (38-2), 75-68 to capture the Division I Men's Basketball National Championship on Monday night. Junior Mario Chalmers hit the clutch three-point shot to push the game to overtime, where the Jayhawks never looked back. This marks the fifth national title for the Kansas men's basketball program.
The University of Memphis squad (38-1, 16-0 C-USA) ranked No. 2 in the Associated Press poll and No. 3 in ESPN/USA Today poll.

The University of Kansas and men’s basketball Coach Bill Self were encouraging fans to celebrate safely while enjoying the final game of the NCAA tournament.
Ads, posters and fliers that have been distributed throughout campus and downtown Lawrence bear a message from Self: “The nation is watching; let’s show some class. Jayhawks celebrate safely.”
Fans had the opportunity to watch the NCAA title game against Memphis on the video board at Allen Fieldhouse.
