Music Director Gerard Schwarz and Seattle Symphony will embark on a California Tour, April 9–12, 2008, with guest violinist Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg performing the Bruch and the Barber violin concertos. The tour begins in Santa Barbara on April 9 at the Arlington Theatre, followed by a performance in Palm Desert on April 10 at McCallum Theatre.

On April 11, the Orchestra will perform in San Diego at Copley Hall, and the tour will conclude on April 12 with a performance at Royce Hall on the UCLA campus. Because the McCallum Theatre performance is sold out, an additional chamber performance, conducted by Schwarz, will also be presented at the Palm Springs Art Museum's Annenberg Theater on April 10.

"Artistically, touring is so important for an orchestra – it takes us away from our daily lives and gives us the opportunity to connect with new audiences who might have heard our recordings, but have not yet had the chance to hear us live," Music Director Gerard Schwarz stated. "I spent eight years with the L.A. Chamber Orchestra and I always appreciate returning to a part of the country that was so meaningful to me in my formative years."

"We are very much looking forward to our first tour in Southern California since 1988," Executive Director Thomas Philion said. "The Orchestra is in fine form, and we look forward to connecting with these new audiences."

The orchestra performs two works by Richard Strauss, Don Juan and Suite from Der Rosenkavalier, and excerpts from Wagner's Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg. Violinist Salerno-Sonnenberg performs Bruch's Violin Concerto No. 1 and Barber's Violin Concerto as soloist. -- www.seattlesymphony.org
