The Australian Defence Force (ADF) wants to boost the number of Indigenous Australians in its ranks.
The ADF has presented a plan to the Federal Government which suggests adopting Aboriginal traditions, such as a smoking ceremony or welcome to country.
Indigenous Australians currently make up only 0.6 of a per cent of ADF personnel and Defence Personnel Minister Warren Snowdon says the Government supports the recruitment push.
"We need to have significant cultural change within the ADF," he said.
"And that goes to the questions of recruitment and increasing the diversity of the Australian Defence Force, not only in terms of Indigenous people, but also women and people from various ethnic backgrounds."
