Anoushka Shankar Performs At Minnesota Orchestra

Acclaimed world music artist Anoushka Shankar, accompanied by the Rise Ensemble, performs at Minneapolis' Orchestra Hall in a single concert slated for Thursday, April 10, at 7:30 p.m., playing works from her Grammy-nominated recording, Rise. Tickets range in price from $20-$35, with VIP seating at $55.

Anoushka Shankar, just 26 years old, has emerged as one of the top talents in contemporary world music. Schooled in the Indian classical music tradition by her father, famed sitarist Ravi Shankar, she is active as a composer, performer, conductor and lyricist. She has collaborated with a wide range of artists, including Joshua Bell, Philip Glass and Sting, and has performed at such prestigious venues as Carnegie Hall, and London's Royal Albert Hall and at the Grammy Awards. Of her five albums, two have earned Grammy nominations, including Rise, released in 2005.

Shankar's recent recordings, including 2007's Breathing Under Water, explore the meeting of Western classical music, electronics and traditional Indian music. She is the subject of a BBC documentary, Anoushka Shankar: Sitar Trek, and co-author of Bapi: The Love of My Life, a biography of her father. Her current tour features performances on four continents, including several concerts with her father. More: anoushkashankar.com.
