Festivity, sense of place, friendship... and love. These are the treasures of life explored so beautifully in these gorgeous masterworks. Antonin Dvořák's Carnival Overture takes listeners on a folk-inspired romp, Joseph Marie Canteloube's Songs of the Auvergne transports listeners to the French countryside, and Sir Edward Elgar's Enigma Variations escorts listeners on a tour of exquisite portraits of his wife and dearest friends. Guest conductor Larry Rachleff joins the DPO for this joyful evening. Soprano Susan Lorette Dunn takes the spotlight for Songs of the Auvergne.
To mark the recent celebration of Sir Edward Elgar's 150th birthday, the DPO is featuring on the Orchestra Level of the Schuster Center a traveling exhibit developed by The Elgar Foundation along with The American Elgar Foundation. Composed of eight panels, the exhibit deals with the life and music of Sir Edward Elgar, presenting such information as the historical timeline and Elgar's family life, musical education, orchestral music, choral music, travel, and recording.
On both concert evenings at 7 pm in the Mead Theatre, guest conductor Larry Rachleff will conduct a Take Note discussion.
On April 11, from 7 pm to 7:45 pm in the Schuster Center Wintergarden, the Vandalia Butler High School Choir – Kevin Wilson, Director – will perform.
On April 12, from 7 pm to 7:45 pm in the Schuster Center Wintergarden, the Oakwood High School Concert Band – Ron Nelson, Director – will perform. -- www.daytonphilharmonic.com
