Varied Voices Opens in New Works-on-Paper Gallery
The debut display in a new modern and contemporary works-on-paper gallery opening this month is Varied Voices, a portfolio of prints by American printmakers of both national and international acclaim. Eighteen artists, representing a diverse survey of current explorations in technique and style, contributed to the project to emphasize contemporary innovations in printmaking.
The portfolio was organized by Colorado printmaker Melanie Yazzie, who teaches printmaking at the University of Colorado, Boulder. The collection is a new acquisition for the Museum. Future displays will draw on the paper works in the Museum's permanent collections, permitting joint projects with other departments as well as projects with collectors. The new gallery, on the third level of the Hamilton Building, is planned to rotate regularly.
Celebrate the final Friday of the month at Untitled #14 (What's Your Beef?) on April 25. The event explores rules, procedures, conservation and etiquette at the Museum: Why can't we touch the art? Do we really have to whisper? What's your beef?
All Untitled events include offbeat encounters with art, unusual detours, music, a cash bar and a dose of the unexpected. These popular events run from 6 to 10 p.m. and are included in general admission. Students presenting valid IDs receive 2-for-1 admission when tickets are purchased on-site. -- www.denverartmuseum.org
