A group of around 15 Tibetan months have staged a protest in front of foreign journalists at a Buddhist monastery in China's northwestern Gansu province.

The monks called for human rights, including the right of Tibetans to practice their own culture. The demonstration ended when the Chinese officials who were conducting the tour asked the journalists to leave.

Two weeks ago a group of monks at the Jokhang temple in the Tibetan capital Lhasa disrupted a media tour organised by the Chinese authorities. The monks demanded the return of the Dalai Lama to Tibet. The Chinese authorities says 953 people were detained during last month's disturbances in Lhasa. A total of 403 were formally charged.

Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has told students at Beijing University that there are significant human rights problems in Tibet. Mr Rudd is on a four-day tour of China.
