The study was based on data on highway car accident deaths from 2001 to 2005. The following information was compared in relation to places that have smoking bans.

Researchers underline that the link is true for people driving to places without a ban, or to places with an outdoor smoking accommodation within the ban area, where they can have a cigarette and a drink. While in places without a ban, people tend to rather stay at home and relax than drive to a local bar.

The Smoke Free Wisconsin group found the study absurd, as it’s groundless to connect smoking and drunk driving without knowing the definite aims of those who preferred to stay off home.
