The speakers will discuss the key issues and implications of the new policy that was introduced in December 2005. The policy aims to:
Secure copyright for creators, safeguarding academic freedom.
Uphold the right of academics to place their inventions in the public domain.
Assert the University’s ownership when the decision is made to patent inventions
Provide clear routes for the transfer and development of technology.
Intellectual property regulations provide guidelines on ownership and aim at avoiding disputes, while safeguarding the interests of academic staff and students.
The briefing will be led by Professor Ian Leslie, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research with contributions from Edna Murphy, Acting Director of Research Services Division and Teri Willey, Managing Director of Cambridge Enterprise Ltd.
The briefing will take place at 3.30 pm on Monday 14 April in Lecture Room 1, at the Mill Lane Lecture Theatre.
