Gold Coast expansion gathers momentum

The AFL says the League's 17th team is on track to be issued a licence by the end of the year.

The Gold Coast team was one of several issues on the agenda at today's meeting of the AFL and club CEOs.

Brisbane chief executive Michael Bowers says it is essential the clubs are consulted, to make sure the new club's player list is set up properly.

"Everyone's wanting to have equal impact and no impact," he said.

"We understand a couple of principle things, particularly from the Brisbane Lions' point of view, you can't do a Brisbane Bears again, we have to do it better than that."

Meetings will be held with all clubs starting next week, to gain their views on how to develop the Gold Coast player list.

The League also says it is close to securing an extra 5,000 grand final tickets for members of the participating clubs.

Today's meeting also discussed setting minimum terms and conditions for coaches.
