Judicial Case Studies As A Research Method At YSU

A workshop "Teaching international human rights law through case studies: a method of application-oriented and research oriented learning" was organized on the 2nd of April at YSU Faculty of Law Juridical Clinics.

The workshop was organized by the Chair of European and International Law of YSU Faculty of Law in cooperation with the Open Society Institute.

"This issue is too urgent nowadays and must be developed. Currently we apply the teaching of case studies on practice. One must be attentive regarding this issue, as the decisions by Eurocourt are obligatory in our republic",-said Dean of the Faculty of Law, Doctor of Law, Professor Gagik Ghazinyan in his opening speech.

The agenda was: "The (possible) role of case studies in teaching and learning international human rights law" (presentation by Sarah Shirazyan) and "Case studies as a form of application-oriented learning", "How to work with case studies?" (presentation by Ralf Alleweldt).

Open Society Institute and the Chair of European and International Law cooperate in the framework of project "Coming back scientists". The main goal of this project is the international experience exchange. The Faculty of Law implements experience exchange with foreign scientists. The speaker of this workshop was a German scientist Ralf Alleweldt.

The focus was made on the thesis that the lack of experience sometimes makes it impossible to apply the theoretical knowledge on practice. Individual and team based, oral and written student involvement in these processes will bring to better results regarding this issue.

Students and postgraduate students from this faculty, who suggested the organizing the analogues workshops in larger scales in future, were also present at the meeting.
