Shepherd extends Force stay

Wallabies full-back Cameron Shepherd has signed a new two-year deal with the Australian Rugby Union (ARU) and the Western Force.

Shepherd's contract extension will keep him in Perth until the end of 2010 season, while Chris Latham's injury could pave the way for Shepherd to play a key role in Australia's Test campaign.

Shepherd kicked the winning goal to usher in the Force's maiden Super 14 home win this season and said the moment confirmed his intentions to remain at the club for the long haul.

"It was a very proud moment for me personally to kick the winning goal but it was a special night for the entire team," Shepherd said in a club statement.

"We'd worked so hard to earn that first home win and it couldn't have been any sweeter when I saw the ball sail through the posts."

Shepherd said he is excited about the prospects for the Force in years to come.

"With the talent we've got coming through, the future looks great as well," he said.

"There's no reason why we can't become a dominant team in the competition for years to come."
