Orlando Philharmonic Presents An Evening Of Petite Sweets

The Orlando Philharmonic presents the fourth concert in its 2007-08 Focus Series, titled Petite Sweets, on Monday, April 14, 7:00 PM at the Margeson Theater in the Lowndes Shakespeare Center, 812 E. Rollins Street, Orlando.

Conducted by Maestro Andrew Lane, Petite Sweets is a program of chamber music of composers that we normally associate with larger orchestral works. On the program is Gounod's Petite symphonie, composed for wind instruments and described as full of wit, beautiful melodies and delicate harmonies. Also on the program is Dvorak's Serenade in D minor, composed for wind instruments; Grieg's Holberg Suite, composed for strings; and Wagner's Siegfried Idyll, written for the composer's wife, Cosima.

Maestro Lane, enhancing the music with an educational element, peppers the program with discourse about the history and nuances of the composers and their works. Tickets are available for $37 and $27. -- www.orlandophil.org
