Pope Benedict XVI to be welcomed via video

Bishop Peter J. Jugis of the Diocese of Charlotte will welcome Pope Benedict XVI in a video to be shown at the papal Mass in Washington, D.C.

At the invitation of the Archdiocese of Washington, D.C. the Diocese of Charlotte has created a welcoming video for Pope Benedict XVI. The Holy Father’s visit to the United States takes place April 15 – 20th.

In the one minute video The Most Reverend Peter J. Jugis, Bishop of Charlotte, briefly describes the diocese and its 300,000 Catholics by saying, “We call home places like Biscoe and Boone, Greensboro and Gastonia, Cherokee and Charlotte. We worship Jesus Christ, His Father and the Holy Spirit in a beautiful cathedral and in tiny mission parishes.”

Bishop Jugis also mentions the Eucharistic Congress, the annual event in Charlotte that draws 10,000 people to the Convention Center for a day of worship. This year’s Congress will take place on Friday and Saturday October 3rd and 4th. www.GoEucharist.com.

Bishop Jugis ended the welcome by expressing his hope that the Papal visit will have a positive impact on all Americans by saying, “May the inspiration of his visit live in the hearts and souls of all Americans for many years to come.”

The video will be played for the audience that will gather in Nationals Park, prior to the celebration of the Mass by the Holy Father on Thursday, April 17th. Bishop Jugis will be among the priests and bishops who will concelebrate the Mass.

Bishop Jugis will also attend an April 16th meeting between the Holy Father and the bishops of the United States at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.

Bishop Jugis’ welcoming video is available for viewing on the diocesan website www.CharlotteDiocese.org.
