Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra Presents Classical Era

The Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra Principal Quartet leads off the Program with Beethoven's String Quartet, op. 18, No. 1. Beethoven originally dedicated the whole 0p. 18 set of string quartets to one of his patrons, Prince Lobkowitz. However, an earlier version of the Op. 18, No. 1 quartet existed, and Beethoven dedicated it to his friend, theologian and violinist Karl Amenda.

Mozart composed the Clarinet Quintet in A major for the outstanding clarinetist Anton Stadler, a member of the court orchestra in Vienna. Along with the DPO Principal Quartet, another outstanding clarinetist – DPO Principal Clarinetist John Kurokawa – will perform the Quintet. This is a work typical of Mozart, in the manner in which he develops a wide variety of moods and musical textures, wrings enormous richness from the material, and allows John to display his virtuosity.

Both works make this concert an homage to strings, reeds, and the composing giants of music's Classical Era!
