I know the public loves the NFL as evidenced by the NFL network, the attention the draft gets and of course fantasy football but 2 hours for the schedule is over the top.
Everything now has to be a big production. NCAA announcing the brackets. Let’s have a 2 hour special that has Dickie V, Digger and the gang giving opinions that are going to change the next time they are together. Used to be the NCAA would announce the brackets and you would get an hour with some interviews and a breakdown. Now they cram the information down our throats and it becomes very tedious. That is why Bobby Knight was so refreshing during the tournament, he talks about the game and strategy and understands the game of basketball. It was a welcome break from Dickie V’s and Digger’s tired analysis.
It is the same with the NFL announcing the schedule or the NFL draft.
The NFL schedule gets 2 hours and the match-ups are going to be discussed ad nauseam for the next 24 hours. The draft is a mixed bag for me, I enjoy watching it and reading about the players and think of which ones would fit with the Titans (As most Titans fans know if a dynamic offensive player is available they will most certainly not be taken).
The problem I have is all of the mock drafts and overanalysis that takes place. Mel Kiper is on version 8 of his mock draft and each draft is different it is ridiculous. Sometimes there is to much information and teams try to be to smart with some of the picks. I would hate to see some of the dings on Barry Sanders if he was in this year’s draft.
