The Minnesota Orchestra concludes the inaugural season of its "Inside the Classics" series with an up-close look at Aaron Copland's Appalachian Spring, a work synonymous with musical Americana.
Orchestra violist Sam Bergman hosts the concerts, which open with a look at the musical and cultural factors that led to Copland's development of the "American sound"; examine how Copland compared with other composers of his day; and explore ways in which his populist approach to classical music influences composition in the 21st century. After intermission, Assistant Conductor Sarah Hatsuko Hicks leads a complete performance of Copland's Appalachian Spring.
The concerts, held at Orchestra Hall, will take place on Wednesday, April 30, at 7:30 p.m., and Thursday, May 1, at 7:30 p.m., with ticket prices ranging from $20 to $45. -- www.minnesotaorchestra.org
