The house of the representatives of Florida this morning approved a bill that makes health insurance coverage more affordable to the state's 3.8 million people without health insurance, but also has lesser treatment coverage.

Presently the Florida health insurance law requires that the health insurance companies provide minimum coverage for certain types of illnesses. However, according to CBS4 report this bill would require the insurance companies to provide coverage for certain types of mental illnesses as well.

"The bill will require all health insurance policies sold in Florida to cover treatment for schizophrenia, schizo-affective disorders, bipolar disorder, panic disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders and major depression."

It took the Florida house a 16 hour-long session to pass this affordable health insurance bill. The votes were divided 70-39 in favor of the bill.

Interestingly, most of the House Democrats supported the Republican governor Crist's insurance plan reports eMaxHealth referring to Orlando Sentinel. Democrats supported governor Crist's plan passed by the Florida senate "for a 'marketplace' of options, with the insurance companies determining what will and will not be covered."

Governor's plan is also popular as it is supported by several organizations such as Florida Medical Association, Hospital Association, and leading business groups. Some say Crist's health insurance plan is more consumer friendly, reports eMaxHealth in today's coverage of Florida Health Insurance news.

Despite providing lesser treatment options at least the bill passed by the house will make health insurance and health care more affordable to the state's 3.8 million uninsured individuals and self-employed.
