Summer will be in full swing with picnics, fireworks and family fun at the Portland Symphony Orchestra’s annual summer concerts. Independence Pops will be held in four scenic locations throughout southern Maine. This year’s concert dates and locations are:

* Monday, June 30 at Shawnee Peak in Bridgton

* Tuesday, July 1 at Thomas Point Beach in Brunswick

* Wednesday, July 2 at Goodall Park in Sanford

* Thursday, July 3 at Fort Williams Park in Cape Elizabeth

All concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. and gates open 2 hours prior. Free parking is available at all sites.

These concerts are the first that Robert Moody will be conducting after formally assuming the title of Music Director of the Portland Symphony. Maestro Moody has assembled an exhilarating program featuring the world-class artistry of the PSO joined by soprano Jenn Raithel-Newman, voted an “audience favorite” by The Arizona Republic.

In keeping with tradition, Independence Pops will include Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, an Armed Forces Tribute medley, and other patriotic favorites. Each concert will conclude with a thrilling fireworks display. -- www.portlandsymphony.com
