
The Late Seating at Actors Theatre of Louisville will take place on April 25 at 10:30 pm in the Victory Jory Theatre, following a performance of Doubt at 8 pm. This event features an electric mixture of selected stories and songs by Jonathan Lethem, interpreted by local artists as part of The Promiscuous Materials Project.
The Promiscuous Material Project consists of stories and songs by Jonathan Lethem that are available non-exclusively for the cost of one dollar per piece. This allows the artist(s) free reign to adapt or mutate the story however they please.
Interpreting Jonathan Lethem’s The Mad Brooklynite as a performance piece is Necessary Theatre. Freewheelin Theatre Company will adapt Letham’s Christmas and Riverrun Theatre Company will perform their interpretations of Girl in Landscape and The Second Longest Night. The local band One Small Step adapts Letham’s If Their Love Were the Biosphere through music.
Also participating are visual artists Andy Garbe with Letham’s Girl in Landscape as a music video, Matt Dobson uses painting to interpret The Children with Hangovers, Lindsey Dobson explores The Spray through photography, Brad White’s interpretation of If Their Love Were the Biosphere uses sculpture, Joe Welsh explores The Zeppelin Parable through painting, Natasha Sud uses photography to interpret The Children with Hangovers and Jason Pierce’s adaptations of If Their Love Were The Biosphere and The Houseguest use collage design.
