The OSCE Council of Ministers has adopted a statement on Nagorno Karabakh, noting that "in 2006 the negotiations brought the positions of the parties closer to the agreement on the main principles of settlement of the Karabakh conflict."Â
It calls on the Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan to double the efforts directed at bringing these principles to a final shape.
"We are inspired with the fact that the negotiations held in 2006 with the mediation of the OSCE Minsk Group and the assistance of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office brought the parties closer to the agreement on the main principles of the Karabakh conflict resolution,"Â says the statement issued Tuesday. "We welcome the assistance of the G8 leaders to this effort, about which they declared during the summit in Saint Petersburg in July."Â
"ÂWe call on the parties to carry on an environmental operation with the support of the international community to extinguish the fires and overcome the consequences of these. These measures can become important steps in regard to the restoration of trust between the sides,"Â the OSCE Foreign Ministers say in their statement. They assure that the organization is willing to support these measures.
