Following last year’s blockbuster performance of Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, the Canton Symphony will end its current season on May 3, 2008 with the magnificent Belshazzar’s Feast by Sir Charles Walton. Performed in English, this massive work for chorus and orchestra will showcase the solo performance of Charles Austin, baritone, as well as the Canton Symphony Chorus and the Kent State University Chorale.
The concert, beginning at 8:00 p.m. in Umstattd Hall, will also feature soprano Susan Wallin, tenor Timothy Culver and baritone Brian Keith Johnson in the Cantata No. 211 by J.S. Bach. Popularly known as the “Coffee Cantata.,” this Bach novelty takes a delightfully humorous look at a young woman’s obsession with the caffeinated beverage that provoked scandal in eighteenth century Germany.
Single Tickets are $38, $32, $26, $20, $18. Senior discount is $3 off any ticket price; student discount is $5 off any ticket price.
To set the mood for this special event, a “Renaissance faire” fund raiser will be held directly before the performance, giving guests a place to combine their dinner and entertainment for the evening. This event, produced by the Symphony League of Canton, will feature delicious food choices from several area restaurants and wandering Renaissance performers. The Faire starts at 5:00 p.m. in the McKinley High School Cafeteria (directly across from the lobby of Umstattd Hall). -- www.cantonsymphony.org
