The Governor of Michigan Jennifer Granholm, who was going to lead an investment mission to Israel, Kuwait today, was emergency hospitalized and went emergency surgery canceling her trip.

Granholm's press secretary has told the Detroit Free Press that the governor initially felt sick on Sunday, but attended a planned dinner in Detroit on Sunday evening. On Monday, while at work, she felt flu-like symptoms, but carried her daily schedule. Tuesday morning Gov. Granholm went to see her doctor. She was admitted to Sparrow Health System in Lansing on Tuesday afternoon after tests were run.

The surgery that started last night at 8:30 PM, lasted two hours and Gov. Jennifer Granholm is resting "comfortably," her office said to Press referring to doctors.

While the Granholm is in hospital she remains the governor of the Michigan regardless of her medical state, but when she leaves the state Lt. Gov. John Cherry would be acting the governor.

Freep writes that "The obstruction is believed to be a complication from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in 1993."

Governor Jennifer M. Granholm was going to begin an overseas investment mission to Israel and Kuwait on Wednesday, April 30, to meet with company leaders and encourage them to invest and grow in Michigan. The mission was going to be the governor's sixth overseas investment mission since 2004. Granholm's previous investment missions to Germany, Austria, Japan, and Sweden resulted in 37 companies announcing over $818 million in new investment and more than 9,000 jobs created and retained. State economic development officials will accompany Granholm on the mission.

"These missions are all about encouraging international companies to create jobs and grow the economy in Michigan," Granholm said. "Our focus on expanding high-growth sectors and our new economic development tools give us real advantages in winning new investment and jobs from companies around the globe."

The trip was going to focus on job creation opportunities with companies in the high-tech automotive, alternative energy, and environmental technology industries.

It is not known if the mission will resume after the Governor fully recovers from the emergency surgery and carriers her daily full schedule.
